At the core of the renewal of Christchurch International Airport, we received a design request that would make the space from the cabin to the arrival gate a unified experience. It was a request that amazed travelers and help Christchurch become a world-class airport. First, using the observation that passengers pass through multiple "points" as they move around the airport, we began developing the design. Each of these points offers a deeply memorable experience through the senses and a chance to introduce the South Island.
So, from the moment travelers step off the boarding bridge, we came up with a design that dazzles their eyes with large photo panels. In the photo, as you pass ahead, you can sense sounds and scents reminiscent of the area being photographed.
During this sensory journey, fountain facilities allow you to taste pure groundwater from a dug well, as well as spots where you can touch natural ingredients. While waiting for customs inspection, we created the largest plasma wall in Australasia that delights and captivates travelers by capturing breathtaking views of the South Island.
I truly immersed myself in this project. We used all our imagination and creativity to design a design that puts travelers in their shoes, allowing them to leave the airport feeling full of anticipation.
